SIGNE STUART | TANGENTS 2008
Gertrude Stein said “Everything
is the same but different.” My work is like
that. While my new works appear different, they express
some of the same thoughts and desires of earlier works.
When people look at my artwork, I still want them to
experience resonance with Nature and to wonder about
the relationships, fields, and patterns that encode Nature's
ways of being and becoming. My work continues to emphasize
structure, sequence and spin.....metaphors for Nature's
rhythms of creation and destruction. The difference is
time.
As a romantic materialist, I play with the syntax and
vocabulary of a few simple materials and tools. Play
generates a flow of what ifs...essential to evolving
possibilities for work. My works now, as then, are visual
dialogues between material, tool, process and idea. Everything
is interconnected in time.
