ANCIENT OBJECTS | Pre-Columbian ECUADOR |
The William Siegal Gallery collection from ECUADOR. Many of these stone figures, the Valdivia Palmar type, are the most unusual and rare works produced by the Valdivia Culture. This group represents one of the largest collections of this type in the world. The Palmar figures are distinguishable by the simple body and incised details on the face. Traces of pigment are sometimes apparent in the incisions, which allude to facial tattooing.
